AliceAlexander
I started working with Alice Alexander in February 2018 part time, became full time in 2020, and transitioned out of the company in February 2022 due to the company needing to downsize. Alice Alexander is a size inclusive, bold, modern and well made brand that keeps in mind sustainability and ethical production, and never compromises on style, size or values. My roll evolved over the 4 years with the company, starting with just sewing and filling orders, but slowly had gradation up to my final roll as Pattern Maker and Studio Manager for the brand. I worked for a fabulous woman, and worked in a fabulous team and am so happy I had the opportunity to work with this company.
Jacket Patterns
Working backwards, my last few years at AliceAlexander were spent as a main pattern maker. While I helped with a little bit of everything, my favorite projects were outerwear and coats. Below are the coats I patterned in descending order from most recent to the beginning, all pictured patterned and sewn by me. I hand graded the Wool Joan Moto, and the 2020 Jolene.
Rosetta 2021- Oversized Moto Jacket, attached belt, zipper sleeves, epaulets, and fully lined
Jolene 2021- Trucker Jacket, double breast pockets, snap front, and minimalist back
Jolene 2020- Trucker Jacket, single breast pocket, jean button front, pleated back
Bessie 2019 & 2020- Safari Jacket, wrap design, and casual fit
Wool Joan Moto 2019-Variations on our Joan Moto Jacket, fully lined, wool, custom dyed, with zipping sleeves and no snaps
Joan Moto 2018 & 2019- First AliceAlexander jacket, bias bound seams, with snapped sleeves and collar.
Additional Patterns
These are other pieces I have participated in the patterning, fit correction, and/or grading of that I am particularly proud of.
Production work
AliceAlexander was primarily a made-to-order model from 2018 through the end of 2020. This meant we would receive orders and then cut and sew the garment. This meant customers could request custom hems, or include notes about problems they have with fit such as a broader than average shoulder, or a regular length torso with a petite arm, and I would adjust the patterns accordingly when cutting. Everyone shared in sewing the bundles, but these were a few designs that I did many of and personally enjoyed most.
Me through the years at this job
"Work with people you like, because you will have most of your lunches with them." - Gina Scarnati
This was something that was said aloud during a presentation given at the Biggs Museum by Gina Scarnati. I may not be remembering it in the precise wording, but this was the heart of it. What I took from it was that you should be kind to the people you work with, learn to work with them, and enjoy their company. Make your job your second home in the best sense. Here below are pictures of myself and my co-workers over the years at AliceAlexander. Love you all.
